In 1581, Yasuke arrived in Kyoto as part of a Jesuit delegation and was renamed after entering Oda Nobunaga's service. Simultaneously, the kunoichi Naoe was ambushed by masked samurai while attempting to recover a stolen box containing part of the Imperial Regalia. Her father Nagato died protecting her, leaving her with the dying command to 'follow the blade.' Naoe later infiltrated Honnō-ji Temple, where Nobunaga revealed that Akechi Mitsuhide had lied about leading the Shinbakufu; Nobunaga committed seppuku with Yasuke's aid. After joining forces, Naoe and Yasuke formed the Kakushiba ikki (the 'League of the Hidden Blade') to hunt down the remaining members of the Shinbakufu. They eventually confronted Ashikaga Yoshiaki at Shōryūji Castle, who revealed that the box contained one of three pieces of the Imperial Regalia and that the Templar Order supported the Shinbakufu.
